The Manhattan Beach Education Foundation Endowment Professional Advisory Council is made up of professionals who provide a collection of expertise in estate planning.
Geoff Bremer is Certified Public Accountant heading his own firm, G.M. Bremer & Associates. He served for many years on MBEF’s board prior to joining the MBEF Endowment Board. Geoff received a Bachelor’s degree in economics from UCLA and a Master’s degree in taxation from Golden Gate University. He is a member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants, a past member of its board of directors and a Past President of its 10,000-member Los Angeles Chapter. He is also Past Chair of the Los Angeles Chapter Taxation Committee and a member of the Chapter’s Estate Planning Committee. He is also a member of the Rotary Club of Manhattan Beach. Geoff represents both individuals and businesses, with a focus on estate and income tax planning matters. In addition, he has had considerable experience structuring business transactions, including sales, acquisitions, and both taxable and nontaxable mergers. He and his wife Chris have two children who have attended MBUSD schools.
Chris is a partner in the South Bay law firm of Carico Johnson Toomey LLP. Since 1994, Chris has been a certified specialist in estate planning, trust and probate law. His practice focuses on estate dispute resolution, estate litigation and estate planning. Chris is frequently appointed by the Los Angeles County Superior Court to serve as an expert in litigated trust and estate matters and as a guardian ad litem to represent the interests of minor beneficiaries. A lifetime resident of Manhattan Beach, Chris is a graduate of Mira Costa High School (1979), Occidental College (1983) and Loyola Law School (1987) (cum laude). Chris’s three children attended Meadows, MBMS and Mira Costa.
Jeff Eisen is a partner in the firm Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP. His practice is focused on estate planning, probate and trust administration, and the representation of beneficiaries (including charitable organizations) in contested or disputed trusts and estates. Jeff represents individuals and families in the full range of estate planning, including everything from “basic” estate planning, (wills, living trusts, and powers of attorney), to complex planning to the transfer of wealth while minimizing or eliminating estate tax, gift tax and generation-skipping transfer tax. He counsels beneficiaries and fiduciaries (executors and trustees) regarding the administration of estates and trusts, including the preparation and filing of federal estate tax returns.Jeff represents individuals and charities as beneficiaries of potentially troubled, disputed and contested estates, working and negotiating to reach a settlement without litigation, but shepherding clients through mediation and litigation of these disputes where necessary. He also counsels individuals and institutions serving as fiduciaries to carry out their duties successfully and without liability to beneficiaries. Jeff and his wife, Andrea, have two children and live in Manhattan Beach.
In 1998, Jennifer Honey founded her own law practice which focuses on estate planning; estate and gift tax planning; probate; trust administration; charitable planning; family business succession planning; as well as will contests, trust, and probate litigation. Prior to beginning her practice, Jennifer was an associate for the law firm of Reish & Luftman as well as a consultant for the Family Wealth Planning Group of the Los Angeles office of Arthur Andersen. Jennifer is recognized by the California State Bar as a certified specialist in the field of estate planning. Her experience includes estate, tax and charitable planning; creation of private foundations; trust planning; family business succession planning; creating and advising family limited partnerships and limited liability companies; post-mortem planning; planning with qualified plan assets; life insurance tax planning; and administration of probates, trusts and estates.
Jennifer is a graduate of the University of Southern California and received her Juris Doctorate from University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. She received a Masters of Law degree in Estate Planning and Estate and Gift Taxation from the University of Miami Law School in 1996, where she served as chairperson for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. Jennifer is an adjunct faculty member of the graduate tax studies program at Loyola Law School. Jennifer and her husband, Kent, have four children and live in Manhattan Beach.
Bill Weintraub is a tax lawyer who has been practicing for over 30 years. Five years ago he joined with several partners at their former law firm to form Elkins Kalt Weintraub Reuben Gartside, LLP. Bill specializes in representing clients in the areas of estate planning, transactional tax planning and tax controversy. His estate plan clients include wealthy individuals and families, professional athletes, entertainers and business owners. For both clients who require sophisticated trusts and transactions to carry out their goals and clients with relatively straight forward estate planning needs, Bill draws on his extensive experience to arrange for a smooth and efficient transfer of property from one generation to the next. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and received his J.D. from Rutgers University. For many years, Bill and his wife, Susan, have been actively involved in the Manhattan Wine Auction benefiting MBEF and its Endowment Fund. They reside in Manhattan Beach.
