Rich Weiss—Chief Investment Officer
In addition to currently serving as the Chief Investment Officer of MBEF Endowment, Rich has been an active member of MBEF and the wine auction committee for over ten years. Rich is a senior portfolio manager and manager of asset allocation for American Century Investments, a $100 Billion investment management organization. Rich has been in the investment field for over 27 years, holding senior positions at City National Bank, Sanwa Bank California, PaineWebber and Mellon Bank. He is a magna cum laude graduate of the Wharton Business School and the University of Chicago. Rich and his wife of twenty years, Virginia, have three girls: Chloe (MCHS), Caroline (MBMS), and Carmen (Meadows).
Geoff Bremer is a Certified Public Accountant licensed to practice in the State of California. With over 40 years of experience, Geoff founded G.M. Bremer & Associates in 2010. Prior to G.M. Bremer, Geoff established a tax department for a local firm that was later to become Bremer & Hockenberg. Geoff received a Bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California at Los Angeles and a Master’s degree in taxation from Golden Gate University. He is a member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants, a past member of its board of directors and a Past President of its 10,000-member Los Angeles Chapter. He is a Past Chair of the Los Angeles Chapter Taxation Committee and a member of the Chapter’s Estate Planning Committee. Mr. Bremer is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Bremer sits on the Board of Directors of several nonprofit organizations in Los Angeles, including serving as the CIO of MBEF from 2002 – 2005. He has also taught tax courses at the graduate level as an adjunct instructor.
Mitch Ozawa is a Senior Vice President and Senior Client Manager for Bank of America Merrill Lynch. In this role, he serves as the bank’s primary relationship manager for a number of privately-held and publicly-held companies located in the South Bay. Mitch has served on the MBEF Board since 2009. Mitch and his wife Ann have three children, Hayden (MCHS), Camryn (RHP) and Chasen (Meadows). Mitch has a BS in Business Administration (Finance) from Cal. State University Long Beach and an MBA from USC. Mitch also serves on the Board of Trustees for Rolling Hills Prep, has served on the Meadows PTA for the past 7 years, served on School Site Council for Meadows from 2007-2009 and is serving one last year for the 2010-2011 school year, and is on the Advisory Board for the Skechers Pier-to-Pier Friendship Walk.
Jeff Thaler is currently the Chief Operating and Financial Officer for PeopleWare Staffing, a leading contract and full-time placement agency specializing in technology. Jeff graduated from Western State College of Colorado with a double major in Business Accounting and Business Finance, and with a minor in Computer Science. With his financial and technical background, Jeff co-founded PeopleWare in February of 1993 which is now recognized as one of the top staffing agencies in the Los Angeles area. He has been a member of the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation Board serving in various capacities and ran the Annual Manhattan Wine Auction for four years generating nearly $1.5M for our public schools. Jeff has been an integral part of the continued support, promotion and growth of the Endowment since 2003. He is a member of the PTSA for Mira Costa High School and is an active member of the Board of Advisors for the Manhattan Wine Auction.
Jeri Vick currently stays home with her two children, Ben and Lauren, who both attend Pacific Elementary School. She spends much of her time volunteering in a variety of roles within the school district, including serving as an MBEF site representative at Pacific for the past 3 years. Prior to working at home with her children, she worked at PIMCO, a large fixed-income asset management company based in Newport Beach, CA. As an investment professional at PIMCO, she was responsible for client relationships totaling $10 billion in assets under management. She also worked with a small team of professionals to develop PIMCO’s emerging market and diversified income businesses. Prior to joining PIMCO, she was employed by Kidder, Peabody & Co. in Fixed Income Research and by Citigroup in risk management with a focus on equity and commodity derivatives. Jeri earned her BA from Boston University with a dual major in International Relations and Economics and holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
